A message from Wade MacKinnon, President of the Board of Directors of PEI Crime Stoppers in recognition of National Crime Stoppers Month, January, 2026.
The theme for National Crime Stoppers Month is Safe Streets, Strong Communities…Together We Can Stop Crime
The success of the Crime Stoppers program is a direct result of the partnership between the community, law enforcement and media. Crime Stoppers works to educate the public and create awareness of illegal activities in an effort to help promote the Canadian values of safety, empowerment and inclusion. Creating awareness and mobilizing Canadians in reporting suspicious or criminal activity anonymously requires a network of partners working together for a common end, and to that end, there are currently 87 Crime Stoppers chapters operating throughout Canada, with 1,700 chapters operating globally.
Each year PEI Crime Stoppers processes about 560 tips per year and has been in operation since 1989. Over the past 36 years tips received in PEI have resulted in more than 900 arrests, assisted in clearing more than 1,300 cases, and resulted in seizure of more than 3.2 million in stolen goods and drugs. Tips received by phone, a free App or through the internet are completely anonymous (see www.peicrimestoppers.com. For further details)
Yours Truly,
Wade MacKinnon
President of the Board of Directors
